Have you done Patch Test on your baby?

A common question we receive is whether our products are suitable for newborns. Although most of our products are meant for babies, this is a very valid question because a newborn’s skin is still very delicate. You are also getting to know your new bub, so you may not know yet if bub is allergic to certain ingredients.

To be safe, we recommend that you do a patch test with the products that you intend to use before applying on baby’s entire body and face. Patch testing is a process to determine if one has a reaction to a contact allergy. If there was a reaction, it can be detected on a small part of the skin rather than the whole face or body, thus reducing unnecessary stress and possible pain to baby.

Dermatologists are able to do specific patch tests. For purposes of being cautious with new products, you could do a simple test at home. Apply a pea-sized amount of the new skincare product on the underarm or inner thigh area. Leave it for 5-10 minutes to see if there is any redness or itchiness. If there is, immediately wash that area with clean water. If there is no reaction after 5-10 minutes, you can leave it for longer and monitor over the next hour. Again, if there are reactions, immediately rinse the area with clean water. Do not continue to use the product as there is a possibility that baby has an allergy to an ingredient in the product. Seek advice from a medical professional to determine what the allergy is. If there is no adverse reaction, it should be safe to use the product on your baby.
